MOD Systems Keynotes SD Association General Assembly
Showcases First Digital Entertainment Kiosk Using Secure Digital Memory Cards, with Asus and D-Link Joining Sonic Solutions in Supporting the MOD Systems GreenPlay SDK for Secure Content Playback on their DevicesApril 15th, 2010 - Seattle
MOD Systems, Inc. delivered the keynote address today at the SD Association's General Assembly, introducing members to the first kiosk-based digital entertainment solution utilizing Secure Digital (SD) memory cards to store premium protected content. Asus and D-Link joined Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC) as the first companies to support playback of premium entertainment content from SD memory cards on their devices using the MOD Systems GreenPlay® Software Development Kit (SDK). The MOD Systems retail digital entertainment platform provides the only solution for downloading movies and TV episodes from kiosks to SD memory cards.
The GreenPlay SDK is based on open SD standards, making it easy for consumer electronics device manufacturers to support the secure playback of premium content in the GreenPlay format. Any device with a secure SD memory card reader has the potential to play GreenPlay content via the SDK. For devices without secure SD memory card readers, Kingston Digital Inc. and Transcend USA plan to provide secure USB-to-SD readers.
MOD Systems will introduce the GreenPlay Media Player later this quarter, which was co-developed with Sonic Solutions, utilizing its Roxio CinemaNowTM entertainment platform, and enables playback on Windows PCs, including laptops, netbooks and tablets. MOD Systems will announce additional GreenPlay-compatible devices throughout 2010, including portable media players, Blu-ray players, televisions, and digital set-top boxes.
"As millions of devices enter the market with secure SD memory card slots on board, MOD has developed the only playback solution for premium entertainment content-from major motion picture films, television episodes, music videos, and the latest album releases," said Anthony Bay, Chairman and CEO of MOD Systems. "Our GreenPlay SDK gives CE device manufacturers simple tools for building playback support into their products, allowing their customers to leverage the portability, ubiquity and security advantages only possible with SD memory cards. We're excited to be members of the SD Association, working on leveraging SD standards for secure content playback today and developing support for the newest standard, SDXC, in the future."
SDXC is the SD Association's newest standard, offering massive storage and incredible speed. The platform is ideally suited for large files such as high-definition video where increased card capacity and write speeds greatly improve the user experience. MOD Systems has begun working with the SDXC standard in its Seattle development facility and plans to bring its kiosks to market with SDXC in the future.
