More Than One Million Tracks and Samples Part of MOD Systems’ Digital Delivery System for Retailers

January 8th, 2007 - Las Vegas

MOD Systems, a leading provider of in-store digital media solutions, today announced at 2007 International CES® that it has signed agreements to sell full track music from Warner Music Group, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and EMI Music. The agreements enable MOD Systems to offer retailers a catalog of more than one million tracks and samples as part of the MOD System 3.0 platform.

The MOD System platform enables retailers to manage, merchandise and fulfill digital media in their store. With the system, music enthusiasts can browse a catalog of independent and major label tracks, preview samples, create customized playlists and compilations, and burn files onto a compact disc or download them to a music player or multifunction device such as a cell phone.

Consumers continue to seek new ways to find and shop for music and there's a huge opportunity for brick and mortar retailers to bring digital music to their customers,; said George White, senior vice president, strategy and product development, Warner Music Group. With MOD Systems, we can work with our retail partners on innovative artist-branded marketing campaigns and digital music offerings.

These agreements open the door for brick and mortar retailers to offer consumers an immersive music catalog where they can explore and purchase not only the latest hits, but also hard to find titles, said Anthony Bay, chairman of MOD Systems. Retailers gain the ability to create a hybrid physical and digital entertainment environment that better engages customers, increases sales, and optimizes inventory.

Retailers can deploy the MOD System 3.0 platform via a hosted application service provider (ASP) model from MOD Systems, which includes the ability for retailers to add a secure online music store to their in-store system. MOD Systems’ ASP model enables retailers to realize the benefits of its digital media delivery platform on a per store basis. The ASP offering is designed to reduce deployment costs by lowering a retailer’s investment in additional corporate IT infrastructure and personnel. MOD Systems handles licensing rights and payment to labels as part of its ASP offer, while the retailer sets its own prices and charges its customers directly. The MOD System 3.0 platform supports Windows Media™ DRM technology to protect the intellectual property of rights holders.
