Anthony Bay, Chairman
As chairman, CEO and co-founder of MOD Systems, Anthony Bay brings more than 25 years of experience as a technology executive and private venture investor. Prior to forming MOD in 2005, Anthony was the executive chairman of Loudeye Corporation (formerly NASDAQ: LOUD), which was acquired in 2006 by Nokia and now powers Nokia's global music service, OVI.
Before joining Loudeye, Anthony spent six years with Microsoft, last serving as corporate vice president and general manager of the Digital Media Division, and as a member of Microsoft's executive staff. His team was responsible for the creation and development of Windows Media technologies including Media Player, Media Server, codecs, DRM, and the windowsmedia.com portal. While at Microsoft, Anthony also served as general manager of the company's Commercial Systems Division and general manager of all MSN development and systems. He managed the development organization that shipped the original version of MSN with Windows 95.
Prior to Microsoft, Anthony spent eight years at Apple Computer, including three years at Apple's European headquarters in Paris. He served as general manager of Apple's Online Services in Europe, general manager for Enterprise Systems Europe, and product line manager for Apple's Workgroup Systems.
Anthony sits on the board of MODUSLINK (NASDAQ: MLNK) one of the world's leading supply chain vendors, and chairs the committee which governs its @Ventures VC subsidiary. He served for five years on the board of European Capital Ventures (ECV), a small private equity investment firm in London, and he also served as chairman and vice chairman for four years at Active24 and led its IPO on the OSLO stock exchange.
Anthony has a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California Los Angeles and a Masters of Business Administration from California State University San Jose. He also has studied at INSEAD in Paris, France, and at Goerg-August Universitaet in Goettingen, Germany.
Will Poole, Director
With a long history of running large product development, product management and marketing organizations, Will Poole has joined MOD Systems Board of Directors. Currently Will is an independent Social-Technologist, primarily focused on applying technology to education. He is working both in the commercial realm and with non-profit endeavors to apply advanced technological solutions to some of the most fundamental issues facing under-served populations of the world.
Prior to his creative capitalism endeavors, Will served as Corporate VP of the Unlimited Potential Group at Microsoft, co-leading efforts to bring social and economic opportunity to the "next billion". He spent three years as Senior VP, Windows Client at Microsoft, delivering 30 percent of corporate revenues, which followed his role as Corporate VP, Windows, where he headed up New Media Platforms and other internet and digital media groups. He joined Microsoft in 1996 with the acquisition of eShop, an internet e-commerce pioneer which he co-founded in 1991. Earlier in his career, Will spent five years in marketing and engineering roles at Sun Microsystems.
He currently holds the role of Co-Chairman of NComputing, which shipped its second millionth virtual desktop in 2009, 75% of which are deployed in schools, half in emerging markets. Will is currently on the Board of Directors of Pengala LLC as well as UW's I-LABS and the Voices Education Project. He received a degree in Computer Science from Brown University in 1983, and is co-chair of the Boldly Brown campaign for the Northwest.
Dan Gerrity, Director
Seasoned technology executive Dan Gerrity brings his senior leadership and technical experience spanning entrepreneurial genesis through IPO and emerging growth to MOD Systems Board of Directors. Currently, Dan is Vice President of Business Development for Intellectual Ventures, a Nathan Myhrvold company, where he is responsible for commercializing the inventions Myhrvold and his team of scientists have developed and patented.
During his career he has built four startup companies, three of which he was a cofounder. Dan served as the CEO of Naverus, Inc., an aviation technology firm producing software for flight management systems. He was also president and CEO of Coinstar, Inc., an international branded consumer financial services company. Joining Coinstar in 1993 as the founding CTO, he progressed through COO, president, and CEO of the company which went public in 1997. He has also held marketing and engineering management positions at Slate Corporation, a startup packaged software company in the Bay Area. Earlier in his career, he started Serra Systems, an automation and robotics software company and worked as a software engineer at IBM.
Dan has a BSEE, MSEE Computer Systems, and an MBA from Stanford University. He holds a Certificate of Director Education from the NACD and is a certified facilitator of Covey's Seven Habits program. He holds over a dozen U.S. and international patents.
Michael Towers, Director
Michael served as Executive Vice President of Washington Mutual Financial Group, responsible for all Washington Mutual retail branches, trust department, telemarketing department, securities brokerage company, and the mutual fund company. He retired from Washington Mutual in 1995.
Michael is actively involved in numerous community organizations including being a Board member of Junior Achievement of Washington. He has co-chaired several successful fundraising campaigns and is now on the organization's worldwide Board of Directors.
He is also former Director of Duckhorn Wine Company, a collection of small winery estates focused on site-specific wines of distinction from the Napa and Anderson valleys in California.
Michael has a B.S. degree from Eastern Oregon University, a M.A. from Wichita State University and has done post-graduate work at the University of Nebraska.
